Five years of observing Cambridge resulted in a rich body of work
Here is a sample of "Townies and Gownies" - i.e.local town inhabitants and those who regularly wear a gown and live, study and teach in the colleges of the famous ancient University.
I grew up in Oxford so a lot was familiar to me. This time I had access to observe from the inside the Trinity College "Formal" dinners.
My dismay and disgust at the immensely wealthy colleges' blatant disregard for the poverty of city folk reached a peak when a poor homeless woman, a pregnant rough sleeper gave birth to twins on the cold cobbled street directly outside Trintiy College gates!
Cambridge is a city of real and shameflu inequality.
However, I also went to several fun festivals, music and fireworks put on by the local council.
Life goes on.....
